Easylit's Story
"The initial goal was not to create a case management system, it was simply to find a better way for me to handle the current business we already had." -- Easylit Founder.
Our founder was a recent Los Angeles transplant with a background in tech who was unexpectedly hired by a Beverly Hills Law Firm as a legal assistant. The core of his firm's case load was contingency plaintiff litigation with some hourly billing matters sprinkled in here and there.
The firm's original case management system consisted of tracking matters through a combination of memory, sticky notes, spreadsheets, and most importantly a master word document. The master word document provided a very short overview of each matter including the name, filing status, value, a few notable dates, and several bullet points as notes for each case. The firm had operated that way for many years and saw no reason to fix something that didn't appear to be broken, however, the software developer who recently joined the team as a legal assistant saw many areas of inefficiency and places for improvement.
Over the next few years and as the case load continued to grow the firm considered adopting an industry leading software on several different occasions, but ultimate chose to keep going with the system that was already in place. And then it finally happened, the firm began taking on a series of cases which had a repetitive clients involved in many of the matters and simply managing that number of cases with an equally large batch of clients to match was quickly becoming a nightmare.
Initially, the idea was just to create a system that could manage the relationships between clients and cases which the software developer turned legal assistant's personal use having had no intention to roll out the system to the entire office. However, after loading all of the matters and clients for those cases, he asked himself "why stop there?" which inspired him to continue adding features and eventually imported the firm's entire case load into the system and rolled it out to the entire office.
Why stop there became a mantra for the one-time legal assistant who after 4 years at the law office returned to work as a software developer and the continued development of the practice management software has culminated into today's version of EasylitCRM.
Even today, our founder's former employer continues to use EasylitCRM to manage their practice.
